Features

Loch Meadie October 2015

The area is especially heavily designated with SSSI, SAC, SPA and Ramsar sites covering a high proportion of the DMG. The greater part of this area is comprised of blanket bog and other wetland habitats which are internationally important both for carbon storage and for the rich diversity of bird life which they support.

Other protected features include ancient woodlands, the coastline and sand dunes, and the complexes of alpine vegetation associated with high mountain tops, as well as a number of important river systems.

Landscape designations and wild land classifications are also important.

A full list and description of the designated sites in the area is included in the Deer Management Group section of this website.
